Name Change

I am excited to tell you that God had led us to a new name! I’ve been praying and fasting for God to truly lead this endeavor.  It seems obvious, but even as ministers we can work more from logic than Spirit.  Well recently God changed the direction of the church and I couldn’t be any more pleased with what God is doing!

A while back I was meeting with a man named Kent Shaffer.  Kent loves the Lord and has a strong passion for ministry and has a tremendous amount of wisdom.  He advised me to take some time and pray/read through Acts.  He encouraged me to ask the Lord to give me the vision for the church and be open to His leading and not be content with doing church how I’ve always experienced.

While seeking the Lord, He has brought a couple of verses to the forefront.  Acts 5:42 (ESV)
42 And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.

And… Acts 2:46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. (all italics mine)

I saw in Scripture the early believers meeting at the temple and in homes. God spoke to my heart and birthed a strong desire to be a part of church that was serious about doing life together and having community be a constant and consistent reality.  As a result EVERYDAY CHURCH was conceived.  A church that is not tied to a building but to the love of the Savior and the people He died for.

The goal is to create groups within various communities that love and lead their people by communicating, meeting, praying and serving regularly together.  I believe this will foster a sense of family and a true sense of living life together.  We will have a weekly gathering that will help spring the family groups into action.

Everyday Church: Reaching “The City” to Reach the World, One Day at a Time.

Come back later this week for an update on prayer requests.

Destination

Things are going well! Last week we decided that the best place for us to start will be the south side of the City. We are extremely excited about the reality of being there. God used a stat I found in my demographic research of the area to confirm this for us. 50,000 out of 300,000 adults in the area consider faith to be really important. That is only 17% of the adult population! This was heartbreaking to me. A positive result was that 47% consider themselves to be spiritual. The fields are ripe for harvest! If someone considers  himself/herself to be a spiritual person but yet does not consider faith to be important we can introduce them to the truth of the Gospel! I really believe God has designed up perfectly to reach these people!

Please pray for…

Favor with the City. We want to bless the community and have free reign to do that.

A perfect location and facility.

The right team to go and start with us.

Protection on my family against the Devil’s schemes.

Generous financial support.

Jesus, that we would be about Him and not the blessings.

May our vision not be just for the church but more for the people!

Love you all!

John Hickman

Scout Trip Update

I Sam10:7 Now when these signs meet you, do what your hand finds to do, for God is with you. 8 Then go down before me to Gilgal. And behold, I am coming down to you to offer burnt offerings and to sacrifice peace offerings. Seven days you shall wait, until I come to you and show you what you shall do.”

I had a great trip to the City and Tulsa! I enjoyed my meetings and left very encouraged.  God has a great task ahead of us and I look forward to the journey. Thank you all for praying. In one of my meetings a Pastor friend encouraged me with the passage above.  He was pushing me to settle on where my heart was leaning in relationship to where we should plant within OKC. I have narrowed it down to 3 areas and really looking for clarity.  He told me that God was with me and just follow my heart and that God would be with me. I was very grateful for that challenge. So in reading that passage I saw Samuel tell Saul to meet up with him in 7 days and he would tell him what to do. So I’m taking the next 7 days (now 4) to continue to seek the Lord and listen to Him. Please pray for me to have that complete peace on where to start our church’s journey.

I am so excited for the future and for the opportunity to reach the City. God is going to do big things and He is going to get all the glory. There is a great need and I’m so humbled that I get to be a part of God’s plan and design in changing the City and the world.

Scout Trip

I am taking a trip this Saturday (the 15th) – Wednesday to OKC and Tulsa to meet with potential partners and investors.  Please pray for favor and strong connections with all of these meetings.  Most will be on Monday with one lined up for Sunday and a couple on Tuesday.

Also, please pray that God would lead us to the exact location He wants us to plant.  We truly desire Him to speak to me where He wants us to start in reaching our goal of reaching “The City.”
We thank you so much for committing to pray for us.

//Pray for our kids as they too have been in transition
//Pray for clarity of vision
//Pray for a core team to move with us

//Pray for the where we are to plant in The City
//Pray that God gives us a building to call our own from the start
//Pray that the Gospel would be revealed with power, the Holy Spirit, and with deep conviction
//Pray for the people of OKC

There will be more updates to come, thank you for praying.
