Church planting? That was exactly the expression in the spring of 2012 when God began speaking to John and Kim about the possibility of being a part of planting a new church. God began to make it clear in His Word, through messages that they heard, through conversations, and through a number of other circumstances, that He was calling them to plant a new expression of His body.
On May 11, 2012 John heard a message at the Catalyst Conference that he felt was completely directed toward himself and his wife. The speaker taught from Mark 5:19 where Jesus said to the man he healed from the legion of demons, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” It was one of those moments where God’s voice was undeniable, and that night they finally surrendered to God’s calling. They immediately begin asking themselves 1,000 questions like, “What does this mean?”, “How will it ever happen?”, “Who will go with us?”, and their flesh wanted to answer those questions with 1,000 excuses. However, God was already at work. He had set them up to be trained and encouraged through the Launch Network and Church Planting Residency at Pinelake Church. All of a sudden, faith and the promises of God’s Word became more real to them than they ever had before. They had no idea of the journey ahead, but there was no doubt that they served a faithful God who did know the journey and was more than able to lead them.
